Frequently Asked Questions

  • Chevron down Where are you located and where can I find directions?
  • We begin and end our tours at 180 Commercial St. Portland Maine.  Click the link to the left to see our location on Google Maps. We board right in front of The Portland Lobster Co. Restaurant. You can find driving directions on our Parking/Directions Page.

  • Chevron down How much does it cost?
  • Adults are $24. Seniors (65 and over) and military are $22 and children (12 and under) are $19. Children under the age of one are free but must be held in your arms.  We also offer a charter rate of $270 and an early bird charter rate of $220.

  • Chevron down Is it difficult to get aboard the fire engine?
  • No… it is very easy! You just have to take five steps up our boarding ladder, similar to getting out of a swimming pool. We have very large hand rails to help you.

  • Chevron down What is the best way to book tickets?
  • It is best best to check our availability on our online ticketing system and book your seats there. For more information call 207-252-6358.

  • Chevron down Where do we pick up our tickets?
  • Tickets are sold online or at our self-service kiosk at 180 Commercial St., it’s very easy to use and secure. All sales are on a first-come, first-served basis so book early to guarantee a seat.

  • Chevron down Do we need a paper print out of our reservation?
  • No.  We just need the name that you booked under.

  • Chevron down Will you wait for us if we are running late?
  • Unfortunately we run on a tight schedule and you need to be at the departure location on time. Please allow extra time for getting into Portland and to find parking!

  • Chevron down How long is the tour?
  • Tours are roughly 50 minutes long but with Portland traffic sometimes we extend it by a few minutes.

  • Chevron down Do you have wheelchair access?
  • Unfortunately because it is a retro fitted 1971 fire engine we do not offer wheelchair access. Getting on-board the truck involves five steps, similar to the ladder at a swimming pool.  A 98 year old did a tour with us last summer.

  • Chevron down Is it appropriate to give a gratuity?
  • Gratuities are certainly appreciated for tours well-given and a truck well-driven.

  • Chevron down Do you offer refunds?
  • Since all tickets are sold based on availability and for a specific date and time, they are non-refundable but can be exchanged for other dates and times if there is availability. If Mother Nature precludes us from offering any less than half of our tour, half the ticket price will be refunded upon request. More FAQs about our refund policy can be found when you purchase tickets.

  • Chevron down Do you get wet on the tour?
  • We do operate during mild inclement weather. Our Bimini cover provides some protection, but please do bring a raincoat as we are not completely covered. We also provide decommissioned firefighter coats to keep the weather and cold away as well as ponchos when it is raining.

  • Chevron down Do I need a seat for my baby?
  • No. Children under the age of one are free in their caretaker’s arms.

  • Chevron down Are pets allowed?
  • We do allow animals as long as everyone else on your trip is OK with your pet.

  • Chevron down Do you have a place to store my child’s stroller?
  • We have storage on the fire engine for strollers and belongings.

  • Chevron down Where can I park?
  • Parking is difficult in Portland so leave yourself lots of time. Metered parking is for two hours so this is the cheapest solution. You can find all local garages by visiting our Parking/Directions Page.
